A Weekend Away

I needed to get out. I just needed a change in scenery and a chance to relax and not worry about anything. However traveling with 4 kids can easily counteract any sort of relaxing vacation- the packing, the hauling, the new environment, the lack of sleep (which always happens in new places) so we thought we shouldn't go anywhere that would require too much energy or time in getting there. What did we came up with? A log cabin on the river a couple of hours away, in the woods with absolutely nothing on the agenda other than to fish (for the hubby), play (for the kids), zone out and … [Read more...]

Friday Favorites

It's Friday! Woo hoo! Actually as a stay-at-home mom, Fridays don't have quite the same meaning to me as before when I was in the workplace, BUT I do love having the hubby home and not being on any schedule so yay for that! Let's dive right into Friday Favorites!   Favorite meal We have been having salads almost every night during the week lately. My favorite this week was this simple BBQ chicken salad. I grilled chicken breasts and basted them in Stubbs BBQ sauce. Then sliced up the chicken and tossed it on some romaine with cilantro, cheddar, leftover broccoli, a little … [Read more...]

Friday Favorites

Hi friends! I can't believe another week has flown by. Before long the kids will be back in school and we'll be in fall. I don't mind fast forwarding the time just a bit because I am eager to get back to our regular schedules with school and activities. Plus it's been such a hot summer for Washington and since most of the homes don't having A/C or ceiling fans for that matter, it's hot! I don't feel like cooking at all so we've been having a ton of salads. I still have a lot of recipes to write but at least I got 3 posts up this week! It's Friday so that means another installment of … [Read more...]

World Breastfeeding Week: Benefits & Tips for Breastfeeding Success

It's World Breastfeeding week so I thought we'd talk about breastfeeding! I realize that this might not interest a lot of you, but it's important and even if it helps out one new mom then it's worth it! As a Dietitian, I worked with the WIC population when I was living in San Diego. It was an invaluable experience for so many reasons, one being that I learned so much about breastfeeding and infants. And this was all before I had kids. As part of the job, we were required to obtain a certification in lactation education which was really pretty neat! I learned sooooo much about … [Read more...]

Hawaii Vacation Food Recap

Hello friends! I posted some pictures from our Hawaii vacation earlier this week and now I am moving on to the food we ate! We definitely ate well on vacation, although we cooked ourselves the majority of the time. Eating out with that many people would have just been a pain and way too expensive. Of course we made exceptions for some of our Hawaii favorites like poke, malasadas (which are similar to donuts but not as sweet (shown in front) and shaved ice. Let's start with malasadas- they are a Portuguese confection, similar to a donut (front box) and they are amazing. They only make … [Read more...]

Hawaii Vacation Recap

I am back from our 3 week vacation in Hawaii. We had a fabulous time and ended up with very spotty wifi so blogging wasn't doable. Sorry to leave you hanging for that long, but I know you understand! Since it will take me a little bit longer to get into the groove of blogging, I thought I could share some of vacation with you. Every other year the majority of our family gathers in Hawaii for a family reunion/vacation. This time we spent 10 days in Kauai and 11 days in Oahu, with our family (my husband's siblings and their families, my mother-in-law and my parents for the second half). … [Read more...]

Four Month Baby Update

Ok so I am a bit inconsistent with postpartum or baby updates but that's okay because I am going to give you one right now! Miss Evangeline is 4 months old today! I have been beyond blessed- she is such an easy child! Yes, my other 3 were also really good babies, but she wins the prize. Perhaps it's because she is a 4th child....or maybe it's just her personality. She doesn't cry a whole lot- just for usual baby stuff like when she is getting tired. Even when she has a dirty diaper she just kind of does this baby talk/yell sort of thing where it sounds like she is complaining, not … [Read more...]

Cooking With Kids & Resurrection Cookies

Cooking With Kids | www.nutritiouseats.com

The kitchen has always been the center of our home. My parent's kitchen has always been THE place to congregate- there is a huge island and floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to their backyard. Whenever I go home, cooking dinner with extending family is what we do. The wine is poured, the appetizers are out and dinner in progress. It's always such a lovely time. Those face-to-face conversations in the kitchen are priceless and always flow so naturally over cooking food. Because of growing up with a focus on the kitchen as a place to gather, I love getting my children involved in … [Read more...]

Evangeline’s Birth Story- Part 2

Thanks for your patience in waiting for part 2 of Evangeline's birth story. You can read part 1 HERE if you haven't already! So this is where we left off, I went into the hospital Friday night December 27th.... I checked in, got sent back to a room around 5:30pm. The nurse on duty came to chat with me. She explained since my cervix was not favorable earlier in the day, that they would start by giving me a cervix ripening pill called misoprostol. I immediately felt dread. Having a miserable head cold and not having my husband there made me want to go running home....not stay up all … [Read more...]

Evangeline’s Birth Story- Part 1

Ok friends, grab a cup of coffee and make yourself comfortable. Today I am sharing some of the details of my birth story and although it's a day I'll never forget, it is easy to mix things up so I wanted to jot it all down before I forget. Friday December 27th was a special day, my daughter's 5th birthday! Unfortunately I had two appointments scheduled early in the day, but then planned on coming home to celebrate afterwards. I started out at my weekly check-up (which you start doing at 36 weeks) where they do the basics- check weight, blood pressure and for me they also did … [Read more...]
