Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies-1-6

Congratulations to Katie C. the winner of the Uncommon Goods Giveaway! I know you will enjoy the gifts as much as I did! Hi friends. It has been way too long. I am back from vacation in San Diego and totally behind schedule. I planned on blogging while I was there but I took my lap top which I don't usually blog from and it was so slow that I couldn't handle wasting precious vacation time trying to post. I didn't take many real photos but if you are on instagram you can see a few of the ones I did take while in San Diego (click on the IG button up top). We hit up Disneyland, California … [Read more...]

Uncommon Goods: Christmas Gift Ideas & a GIVEAWAY!

Uncommon Goods

Who is in the midst of Christmas shopping? I am always on the hunt for unique gift items especially during the holidays and love sharing a few of my favorite things with you every year. Since I always have at least one of the three kids with me it makes shopping in person very difficult. Thankfully I have a nice cozy office to do my online shopping. When the folks at Uncommon Goods (a Brooklyn-based online retailer of unique gifts and creative designs) offered to send me a couple products from their kitchen/cooking section I immediately fell in love. It was my first time visiting their … [Read more...]

Crostini with Whipped Feta and Tomatoes

Crostini with Whipped Feta and Tomatoes | www.nutriitouseats.com

This is hands down one of my favorite appetizers ever. I made it for the first time a while back when my mom was in town and we ate it several nights for dinner. Wine and crostini. What more do you need? By the way, have you ever wondered the difference between crostini and bruschetta? I had to look it up but it's really just a difference of the bread used. Bruschetta, form the Italian word "bruscare" is to roast over coals and is made from Italian or sourdough bread. Crostini are toasted from a finer-textured bread like a baguette. They are both topped with a variety of delicious toppings … [Read more...]

A Holiday Treat for Santa: Blondies

blondies-1-2

Santa works hard all year to make Christmas day magical for kids all over the world. He needs something caloric and high fat to sustain him through the night, don't you think? Enter some ooey, gooey, fabulous blondies. This was my first time making blondies and I was shocked with how good they were. I just assumed Blondies tasted as boring as they looked. With toasted nuts, white and dark chocolate, there was no chance of that happening. If you're rummaging around your cupboards looking for ingredients to make a treat for Santa- try these. You'll likely have everything you need on hand! … [Read more...]

Easy Holiday Appetizer: Homemade Onion Dip

OnionDip-1

Some of my favorite foods to have around the house during the Holidays are Ruffles and onion dip- in the past it was store-bought onion dip or even just plain light sour cream. It's weird, but for some reason I associate it with this time of year. It's not exactly what I'd serve guests but I love pulling out the leftover ham and making a sandwich along with my chips & dip. When I saw this recipe posted on someones pinterest account I knew I'd love it. Just in time for the Holidays this super easy dip is definitely guest-worthy...a big step up from the sour cream mixed with Lipton soup … [Read more...]

A Holiday No-Bake Treat: Butterscotch Haystacks

Haystacks-1

Whether you're making cookies for Santa, your neighbor or to enjoy at home, December is full of baking and treats. I, like many others, love to bake and eat sweets. How do I manage to do it and not gain weight? Easy! I exercise consistently and share my goodies. I also eat healthy meals daily which helps to balance out my calories. One thing I've been doing lately is to make a small plate of crudite (raw veggies) and dip for us to eat before dinner (usually while I am cooking). That way, I know we're getting extra veggies into our diet and it helps us to not feel so hungry for dinner (our favs … [Read more...]

Holiday Gift Guide 2011

holidayguide-1

Need some gift ideas for the upcoming Holidays? Here is my 2011 food-kitchen inspired gift guide. I've had a lot of time to flip through magazines and catalogs while I feed the baby so this is what I came up with! Eat Smart Retro Kitchen Scale from Amazon: perfect to measure your ingredients when a recipe calls for items by weight and it takes the guesswork out of portion control $27 Holiday Gift Tin (regular, cheddar and caramel popcorn or variety of chocolate popcorns) from Dale and Thomas Popcorn: I remember getting these popcorn tins as a kid (not quite as gourmet as this) and … [Read more...]

Carrot Spice Muffins

Carrot Muffins-1

You know how I mentioned packing healthy homemade muffins in your kid's lunches? I love this one and have been making it a lot lately: Carrot Spice Muffins. I had a hankering for warm, freshly baked muffins and I wanted to incorporate a veggie. I was deciding between zucchini and carrot and since I make a lot of zucchini bread I thought I'd try something new. I love that a good amount of carrots go into this muffin mix and the kids don't suspect  a thing. With all the yummy, warm spices, these muffins will get you looking forward to the fall season. Although they are best eaten fresh out … [Read more...]

Holiday Appetizer: Roasted Broccoli & Carrots and Herb Marinated Olives

Roasted Brocc & Carrots-0250

You know what is great? Roasted vegetables. I love vegetables of any kind, but roasting really takes the flavors to the next level. I think this is a great appetizer in addition to the heavier ones you might find at a party including meat, cheese or starches. Let's upgrade from the boring raw veggies to something that has some flavor, shall we?! The dish is really simple- you mix the carrots and broccoli on a cookie sheet with some garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper and roast away . Once done, toss with some herbs and lemon zest. SO flavorful! You could definitely try other veggies, I just … [Read more...]
