My oldest baby boy turned 8 over the weekend! His birthday kicks off the beginning of the birthday/holiday extravaganza over at our house where the rest of us will follow until the year comes to an end. He was super laid back about the party plans this year. He chose to invite 4 classmates to Chuck E Cheese, plus his grandma and great-grandma came to visit from Texas (my mom and grandma) so it was a fun weekend celebrating. oops, forgot the mouth and fangs, but it's still a cute bat! In addition to the delicious chocolate cake I make every year for him (I use this recipe), I did a … [Read more...]

10 Ways to Use Leftover Halloween Candy

10 Ways to Use Leftover Halloween Candy |

Hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween! We stayed local in the neighborhood and the kids had a blast. If you follow me on instagram than you have most likely seen these costume pics. As always the kids ended up with tons of candy, so I thought I'd quickly share some ideas for how to "recycle" some of the leftover candy instead of eating it all! I plan on doing several of these for sure.   Play sorting games with your kids. Create different ways to sort the candy- by color, by type (i.e. all lollipops, all bubble gums, all chocolate), by brands (all Snickers, all … [Read more...]

Last Minute Treats! Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween-2

First off I wanted to say thank you to those of you who voted for my Apple Pie Baked Oatmeal in the Quaker recipe contest- my recipe won and will be featured in the Quaker newsletter! I appreciate those of you who took the time to vote and support Nutritious Eats! I did want to mention that if you happened to print the baked oatmeal recipe on the first day there was a little error (I accidentally omitted the vanilla extract). I quickly fixed the recipe but you might want to reprint because I am not sure what copy you might have. Even when I think I've double checked my work 100 times, it … [Read more...]

Popcorn Balls-1-4

Happy October everyone! I can't believe it is already time to get out my Halloween decorations. I absolutely LOVE this time of the year and am always shocked at how fast it flies by. When October hits, I immediately think of treats for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas! I love baking in the fall and winter. Speaking of treats, did you grow up eating popcorn balls this time of year? Or did you ever get them in your Halloween treat basket? They are something that I have always seen in magazines but have just never made. This differs from most traditional popcorn ball recipes in that it … [Read more...]

Easy and Fun Halloween Treats

My oldest son's birthday is 2 weeks before Halloween so I could not resist throwing a Halloween themed birthday party for his 5th birthday. I had a hard time narrowing down the treats to make because there are so many fun ideas for Halloween goodies. I also wanted to make sure it wasn't just sweets so I including some lunch food such as the mummy dogs and ghost, cat, bat and moon sandwiches. The great thing about this party is  lot of the food can be done ahead of time such as: bake and freeze the cupcakes and pumpkin cookies, make the peanut butter eyeballs, assemble the ghost pops, color … [Read more...]

Monster Apples

I was on a mission to find something "healthier" to make for Halloween. I know once the trick-or-treating begins, we will all be pigging out on candy. But until then, I wanted to stay away from baking any Halloween treats. I saw this idea in Parents magazine and knew I had to copy it. Adorable aren't they?! The best part of this activity/snack/treat is it's SO easy. As long as you have apples, the rest is a cinch. I literally threw a bag of candy in the cart during check-out, plus grabbed the fruit roll-ups. I knew I had a can of frosting leftover from L's birthday. I also had the … [Read more...]
