Hawaii Vacation Food Recap

Hawaii2014-2

Hello friends! I posted some pictures from our Hawaii vacation earlier this week and now I am moving on to the food we ate! We definitely ate well on vacation, although we cooked ourselves the majority of the time. Eating out with that many people would have just been a pain and way too expensive. Of course we made exceptions for some of our Hawaii favorites like poke, malasadas (which are similar to donuts but not as sweet (shown in front) and shaved ice. Let's start with malasadas- they are a Portuguese confection, similar to a donut (front box) and they are amazing. They only make … [Read more...]

Hawaii Vacation Recap

I am back from our 3 week vacation in Hawaii. We had a fabulous time and ended up with very spotty wifi so blogging wasn't doable. Sorry to leave you hanging for that long, but I know you understand! Since it will take me a little bit longer to get into the groove of blogging, I thought I could share some of vacation with you. Every other year the majority of our family gathers in Hawaii for a family reunion/vacation. This time we spent 10 days in Kauai and 11 days in Oahu, with our family (my husband's siblings and their families, my mother-in-law and my parents for the second half). … [Read more...]

WIAW {What I Ate Wednesday} RD Edition

WIAW3

Hi friends! Can you believe I've never participated in a WIAW post? Jen from Peas and Crayons hosts it and it's where bloggers write a post about everything they ate in one day and link it up every Wednesday- mostly because it's fun but also to share ideas and inspiration. I am normally too scatterbrained to remember to photograph all my eats (you'd think I'd have that down by now), but when I got tagged by a fellow Dietitian, Carissa of Fit 2 Flex, for the RD edition of WIAW I had to participate! This is RD version started by Carlene of Healthfully Ever After where RDs all over the world … [Read more...]

A Military Homecoming

FlinnHomecoming002

Nine month deployment to Afghanistan...coming home Memorial Day. There are no words. So I will tell you a story in pictures....from the hours spent before his arrival waiting at a friend's house, to the anxious hour waiting at the airport, and finally when the guys appeared before their loved ones. Seriously one of the best moments of my life. Photographs by Bonnie Hussey … [Read more...]

Surviving Deployment and Finding Strength

I hope everyone is enjoying this Memorial Day as we take moment to pay tribute to those brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for us. I remember when I met my husband and he was getting ready to join the Marine Corps, a couple years later we started our family and finished our first job at Camp Pendleton, San Diego and I thought about how different our children would be raised from the way I was raised. They would grow up moving from place to place every couple of years, being pulled out of schools and separated from friends. Fast forward eight years later and my husband is … [Read more...]

Pin It Party {Pinterest}

Hi friends! I really meant to be a good blogger this week but then life got in the way so I missed Wednesday's post. I just need to find a way to create a few more hours in the day. Little Miss E takes way too long to get to bed now so even though I start the routine at 7pm I often have to run back up 5 or 6 times to sooth her, burp her, etc until it's past 9:00pm and she's still not out for the night. Then with the other 3 coming in and out of their rooms for things, it is impossible to get any work done around here! I try to keep telling myself this is such a short stage and they'll be … [Read more...]

IDLife: Individually Designed Nutrition

IMG_2440

Hi friends. Hope all you mamas had a lovely Mother's Day. I took the kids to church and then I treated myself to a day off from cooking and cleaning. The only place I could think of that had a drive-through nearby (that wasn't McDonalds) was Starbucks so they kiddos got egg sandwiches and I got a salad to-go. We had leftovers for dinner and they gave me sweet cards that they were so very proud of. They might drive me crazy at times, but they are truly my world. I am in awe of them and so blessed that I get to be their mommy! This is an iPhone pic from Easter because I wasn't able to get one … [Read more...]

Stitch Fix Review #1

StitchFix5

Ok this post obviously has nothing to do with food, nutrition or fitness and although I usually try to stay on topic when I blog, but what girl doesn't like to talk about fashion?! I can't tell you how excited I am! I finally ordered my first Stitch Fix and seriously opening the box was the highlight of my week! I signed up with them when I first learned about the company over a year ago, but never scheduled a fix. Then I got pregnant and definitely didn't want to order one so as soon as I had Evangeline I decided it was time! I probably don't need to explain that finding time to go … [Read more...]

Homemade Ranch Dressing

Homemade Ranch Dressing

Hi friends! I just wanted to post a quick update on my pregnancy since I have been a bad blogger since the morning sickness hit. I am 11 weeks and feeling better each day, nausea is a lot better but not completely gone. I got to see the little nugget for the first time this week which always makes me giddy. I even got a few waves from my baby. I am always in complete shock at how well developed they are at such an early time in pregnancy. They fact that there are arms and legs, hands and feet. It's truly a miracle and it doesn't get old even for a 4th time! I still don't have much … [Read more...]
