Blackened Seasoning Mix and Blackened Fish Recipe

BlackenedFish+++-1

Hi friends! I am excited to participate in Recipe Redux for the first time, a recipe challenge group founded by Registered Dietitians. What happens here is a group of bloggers (aka "the recipe redux members") create a recipe each month using an assigned theme. It's all about reinventing healthy eating. I always enjoy seeing the creativity that goes into these posts, plus it's a great way to find new blogs. Our theme this month is "Spooky Spices", you know those spices that are lurking in the back of your spice cabinet collecting dust. Well we are putting those spices to good use … [Read more...]

Hello friends and happy friday! Hope you all enjoyed some photography tips that I shared earlier this week from the IFBC photography session. I will go through my notes and share some info on the other sessions I attended, but for now I am joining Lindsay over at the Lean Green Bean for a Pin It Party! Bloggers, doesn't matter what kind- craft bloggers, mom bloggers, food bloggers, get a TON of traffic from Pinterest so we are all sharing posts we'd like to see pinned. Please support your favorite blogs and pin stuff because it helps others find our content and that makes us happy! … [Read more...]

A Weekend Away- IFBC 2014

Screen Shot 2014-09-18 at 3.12.48 PM

Hi friends, I am super excited for this Friday because I am heading into Seattle (about an hour north from us) for the International Food Blog Conference. Yes, there really are conferences about food blogging! It's my second year attending and I am so thankful they decided to have it in Seattle again this year. Part of this trip is also a little mini-vacation. Attending this conference last year was the last time I was away from my kids and coming off the deployment I totally need a "me" weekend! I am super excited and can't wait to eat, learn and socialize! I will attend the conference … [Read more...]

Friday Favorites

photo-63

It's Friday! Woo hoo! Actually as a stay-at-home mom, Fridays don't have quite the same meaning to me as before when I was in the workplace, BUT I do love having the hubby home and not being on any schedule so yay for that! Let's dive right into Friday Favorites!   Favorite meal We have been having salads almost every night during the week lately. My favorite this week was this simple BBQ chicken salad. I grilled chicken breasts and basted them in Stubbs BBQ sauce. Then sliced up the chicken and tossed it on some romaine with cilantro, cheddar, leftover broccoli, a little … [Read more...]

World Breastfeeding Week: Benefits & Tips for Breastfeeding Success

FlinnHomecoming002

It's World Breastfeeding week so I thought we'd talk about breastfeeding! I realize that this might not interest a lot of you, but it's important and even if it helps out one new mom then it's worth it! As a Dietitian, I worked with the WIC population when I was living in San Diego. It was an invaluable experience for so many reasons, one being that I learned so much about breastfeeding and infants. And this was all before I had kids. As part of the job, we were required to obtain a certification in lactation education which was really pretty neat! I learned sooooo much about … [Read more...]

Green Ways to Pack A Lunch

photo-63-1

Hi friends! Today I want to talk about environmentally friendly ways to pack a lunch.  I always keep foil, saran wrap and plastic baggies on hand, but we rarely use them for our lunches because there are so many great reusable options. For the month of August my three oldest are all attending my daughter's year round Montessori school. They offer such a great curriculum and fun summer camps so everyone is super excited. The sweet owner of the school even offered my two year old (who will be 3 in November) a chance to attend for the month of August as well, his first time. I have been … [Read more...]

Hawaii Vacation Food Recap

Hawaii2014-2

Hello friends! I posted some pictures from our Hawaii vacation earlier this week and now I am moving on to the food we ate! We definitely ate well on vacation, although we cooked ourselves the majority of the time. Eating out with that many people would have just been a pain and way too expensive. Of course we made exceptions for some of our Hawaii favorites like poke, malasadas (which are similar to donuts but not as sweet (shown in front) and shaved ice. Let's start with malasadas- they are a Portuguese confection, similar to a donut (front box) and they are amazing. They only make … [Read more...]

Hawaii Vacation Recap

IMG_4569

I am back from our 3 week vacation in Hawaii. We had a fabulous time and ended up with very spotty wifi so blogging wasn't doable. Sorry to leave you hanging for that long, but I know you understand! Since it will take me a little bit longer to get into the groove of blogging, I thought I could share some of vacation with you. Every other year the majority of our family gathers in Hawaii for a family reunion/vacation. This time we spent 10 days in Kauai and 11 days in Oahu, with our family (my husband's siblings and their families, my mother-in-law and my parents for the second half). … [Read more...]

WIAW {What I Ate Wednesday} RD Edition

WIAW3

Hi friends! Can you believe I've never participated in a WIAW post? Jen from Peas and Crayons hosts it and it's where bloggers write a post about everything they ate in one day and link it up every Wednesday- mostly because it's fun but also to share ideas and inspiration. I am normally too scatterbrained to remember to photograph all my eats (you'd think I'd have that down by now), but when I got tagged by a fellow Dietitian, Carissa of Fit 2 Flex, for the RD edition of WIAW I had to participate! This is RD version started by Carlene of Healthfully Ever After where RDs all over the world … [Read more...]

Pin It Party {Pinterest}

pin-it-party-e1390186029146

Hi friends! I really meant to be a good blogger this week but then life got in the way so I missed Wednesday's post. I just need to find a way to create a few more hours in the day. Little Miss E takes way too long to get to bed now so even though I start the routine at 7pm I often have to run back up 5 or 6 times to sooth her, burp her, etc until it's past 9:00pm and she's still not out for the night. Then with the other 3 coming in and out of their rooms for things, it is impossible to get any work done around here! I try to keep telling myself this is such a short stage and they'll be … [Read more...]
