My New Favorite Running Accessory- Flip Belt Review & Giveaway

FlipBeltRibbet collage

Congrats to Brooke W., the winner of the Sunglasses Shop giveaway. An email has been sent to you! Do you workout with an arm band or running belt? As I started to increase my mileage at my running group I realized how much I needed one. It was getting too cumbersome to hold my iphone in hand or deal with trying to stick in between layers of clothing. The nice folks at the Flip Belt offered to send me one of their belts to try and I knew I'd like it. No zippers, no pouches, just a simple slip on belt that stretches to fit your body with a few simple slits in in to store your … [Read more...]

What’s Beautiful? Strength and Determination

UA_WB3_PostCard

I have always been a small person, petite, yet muscular. I was into gymnastics, cheerleading and running growing up and I had a muscular build to show for it. I am not going to lie, I always admired the toothpick skinny girls, you know the model types? Not so much anymore. As I started running more as an adult (i.e. races and marathon training) I discovered how powerful it felt to be physically fit. After having kids and overcoming the struggle of the weight changes that come along with pregnancy, I had a new respect for my body. I didn't care if I was skinny. I wanted to be fit and strong- … [Read more...]

Fitness Friday

Dirty Dozen

Oh Friday, I am so happy you are here! I realized I haven't given you an update on my injured foot and I am sure you are all dying to know how it's feeling. Right? Right. So I took a good 2 weeks off from running after I went to the Doctor. I bought new running shoes that are good for high arches, such as mine. I took ibuprofen daily. I waited patiently for the pain to magically disappear. Um yeah, that didn't happen. I couldn't wait any longer so I decided to test it out. Since my rest period ended I have done about 4 runs, at no more than 3-4 miles per run. I am so frustrated that the … [Read more...]

Get Fit with FitnessGlo {Review and GIVEAWAY}

FitnessGlo | www.nutritiouseats.com

I love exercising at home, mainly because it saves time and also because I can look like a crazy woman who just rolled out of bed when I workout! Ever since I had my third child, it's been much harder to manage gym outings. My kids are always with me, with the exception of my oldest son who is gone for 3 hours a day for kindergarten. The gym here offers childcare but charges $4 per hour PER child which just doesn't fit into our budget. None of this stops me from working out though. I do almost everything at home from treadmill runs, weight training to workout DVDs and when the hubs is home and … [Read more...]

Fitness Friday: A Workout & Tips for Seeing Results

Nutritious Eats

I've had a great week of workouts. It's funny what the mind can do when it comes to exercise. I just felt like stepping it up and once Monday rolled around I pushed myself more than I have lately. I got in a nice variety- 2 days of treadmill running, 2 days of Insanity and 1 day of weights. I plan on doing a long outside run on Saturday with a new neighborhood running group. It will be my first run with them and I am hoping I like it because that is probably the only way I will be fitting in long runs in this cold weather. I need the motivation! (pictured above: sporting a few of my new … [Read more...]

Fitness Goals and Meal Planning….The End of a Great Year!

Merry Christmas

I hope you all had a WONDERFUL few weeks celebrating the Holidays and hopefully you all had a little time like me to take a break from the computer and spend some quality time with family and friends. We stayed in Washington and since we don't have any family nearby it was a very quiet Christmas (well not exactly quiet as 3 kids are the complete opposite of quiet) but really a great one. Seeing the kids' faces light up at everything from baking for Santa to donating their old toys, made this one extra special. We sure did miss our family though! Here is my belated Christmas card to all of … [Read more...]

Fitness Friday: No-Equipment Needed Workouts + San Diego

IMG_0463

Greetings from San Diego! I am so happy to be back here visiting. The last time I was here, over 6 years ago, and I was 5 months pregnant with my first child! I loved my time in San Diego. I originally moved with a high school friend because we were looking for a change. I was just finishing my Dietetic Internship in Boston and she was working in San Francisco. We decided if were going to find jobs in San Diego we just needed to move there. So we did! I took the first job I interviewed with at Scripps Mercy Hospital with their WIC program. I really enjoyed working with the high risk … [Read more...]

Fitness Friday: 25-Minute Anywhere Workout

Turkey Chili

I have been doing a lot of quick workouts around here lately. Baby R still takes two naps and I try my best to let him take them at home which means I usually skip the morning gym for a treadmill run or at-home workout. I do miss the good ol' days of kid-free workout sessions, but I'll take what I can get! I have been enjoying this one lately. It takes ~ 25 minutes and I call it my garage workout because that is where I do it, but it's great for hotel rooms, inside, outside, the gym, etc. Sometimes I'll do a quick 1 mile run on the treadmill and then just one round of these exercises. … [Read more...]

Lacking Motivation? Join My 30 Day Health Challenge!

Slide1

Summer is coming to an end. I know many of your kids have already started back, but we are a little on the late side here starting the end of next week. I was thinking the start of school year felt similar to the start of the calendar year and you know how everyone sets goals and resolutions that time of year. I've been eating too many treats over the summer with my kids and want to jump start some motivation as we get back to a crazy activity-filled schedule. I have a soon-to-be kindergardener, a preschooler and a 9 month old and we will be starting the kid's activities soon too including … [Read more...]

A Few of My Favorite Things

FavoriteThings-1-2

If you caught up with my last post, you'd know that I am in a bit of a cooking rut. Not to worry, I am sure now that my mom is visiting, I will have lots of free time to go grocery shopping without my kids, catch up on all my favorite food magazines and blogs, and have the time to be inspired. You just wait. For now, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite things, totally unrelated to food. I always like to keep a "wish list" on hand for fun. You know in case I win the lottery. I never thought I'd get excited about rain boots, but after living in Missouri where there are plentiful rain … [Read more...]
