Friday Favorites

October 24, 2014 by Melanie 16 Comments

Hey friends! It’s been a good week, yes? We are sailing right into Halloween week- we’ve got a Halloween fall festival to kick start it this weekend!

Did I tell you we got rid of cable? Well we did. It was my hubby’s idea and was costing us (with internet) $175 which is pretty crazy considering we don’t watch much TV anyway! A few nights a week I might curl up on the couch to watch something, but I can’t remember the last time I turned on the TV during the week. Usually the hubs and I catch up with our favorite programs over the weekend, Parenthood and Sherlock (a season behind on both)….but the reason why I am telling you this is now instead of watching anything during the week, I just shop online!

Saving money? Perhaps not so much!

Ok but in my defense, for weeks I entertained the idea of drastically scaling back my wardrobe (more about that another time) and I finally attacked the closet and 1) I got rid of almost 50 items (which I donated to a woman who is battling cancer and is getting reimbursed from a company collecting the bags of clothing) 2) realized I need more neutrals in my life.

I know it doesn’t make sense to go get rid of a bunch of stuff then buy a bunch of stuff, but I was hanging on to surf I had for like EVER. Hence the shopping. Well I have placed about 5 orders from Ann Taylor Loft, currently loving their stuff. Although, getting the sizing right has been challenging so I have been returning and reordering especially when things go on sale, like Wednesday when they had 50% off for the whole day online. Score!

So here we go….

Favorite deal

scored a couple of these knit button downs for $18- I got this chambray color and black and they are wonderful. They are like a t-shirt material and great for layering. So comfy.

LOFT

Favorite snack

Let’s talk food shall we? I got an great goodie box from Doctor in the Kitchen to try their trademark product, Flackers, delicious, gluten free, flax seed crackers, developed by holistic medical doctor, Alison Levitt, MD. There were lots of different flavors but I didn’t want to open them all at once for fear they might not stay fresh. I started with the savory and onion and garlic ones and they paired great with hummus. My initial try I wasn’t completely sold on them, but they have totally grown on me! I can’t wait to try the other flavors.

The speedsters are similar but are nuggets and have sunflowers and chia seders in there too.

I love that there are no additives and nothing but simple whole food ingredients. These nut free, raw, organic crackers are high in fiber and protein! They are unique in that they are made using sprouted seeds and dehydrated at low temps to ensure all the nutrients remain stable.

These crackers are perfect for those who have dietary restrictions, food allergies or really anyone looking to eat healthy….which is hopefully all of you!

Favorite recipes

Well I guess I shouldn’t really say favorite seeing as I haven’t tried any of these recipes but these Halloween appetizers from Cooking Light caught my eye. I am already thinking about what I should have on hand for dinner after we do our downtown trick or treating, but before we go neighborhood trick or treating. It’s a busy night when you’ve got 4 kids high on sugar (well 3 really seeing as the baby hopefully won’t be eating any). I like the idea of some dips and snacks type things, along with sloppy joes or chili.

Favorite planner

I ordered my 3rd Erin Condren planner! I am so excited. Of course I obsessed over which cover to chose. I usually chose bright fun colors, but this year wanted some cool, relaxing colors and I loved this grey/blue combo! I put our new Christmas card photo on the back and this is the front, except it will have my name of course (p.s. that was a referral link just so ya know).

 Favorite accessory

Are you following me on Instagram? Please do!

I shared this photo of the gorgeous necklace i got in my Rocksbox subscription (which I explained here on a previous Friday Favorites). I am in my second month of the subscription and enjoying it so far! So far I have swapped out my box 4 times and have kept 1 item. I loved this last vintage-style necklace but it was too expensive for me, but I had fun borrowing it! If you want to try a Rocksbox subscription and receive unlimited jewelry for a whole month (it’s all on loan and if you and if you want to buy anything you just keep it and they charge you), here is the link to one free month (normally $19 a month).

So that’s all I’ve got for today. Have a wonderful weekend!

Questions: What are you loving this week? Any new favorites? Have you tried Flackers yet? Anyone doing Rocksbox subscription? Are you ready for Halloween?

We don’t have cable either and I don’t even miss it! I’m always hit or miss with Loft. Sometimes I love everything and others it’s just meh. Cute shirt though! I might need to get a few of those…

I haven’t bought from them in years and then I got on my “need for neutrals” kick and found a lot of stuff. Now just trying to find the right sizes, sigh.

They had another that got great reviews- maybe more like a traditional chambray and less like this t-shirt material. i kind of wanted both!
