Healthy Snacking with Nourish Snacks + Giveaway

November 24, 2014 by Melanie 29 Comments

NourishSnacks-2-2

My family snacks. A lot. And I am ok with that because I believe healthy snacking bridges the gap between meals and prevents from overeating.

NourishSnacks-1

However, I get bored of having the same things in the house all the time so I am always looking for new healthy snacks to try.

Joy Bauer, RD and nutrition expert on the Today show, who I spoke of in this post, has a new line of healthy snacks called Nourish Snacks. Her team offered to send me some…. and when anyone offers healthy, vegan, gluten free, preservative free, non-GMO snacks for my family to try, I am ALL in.

As a busy mom of 4 (who isn’t busy these days?), I must have some grab and go options. I totally support big bulk purchases to cut down on packaging, however there are simply times I am in too much of a rush being a stay-at-home, work-at-home mom to 4 kids that I need some convenient options.

NourishSnacks-1-2

Now that soccer is over, it’s a little quieter, however we still have gymnastics straight after school and church class for my son and going from school pick-ups to activities doesn’t allow for much time to pack separate snacks for each kid. These are days that I need something that is easy to grab…..and healthy.

I try to use reusable bags in the kids lunches every day, but there are some days that I am just not prepared and have to throw packaged snacks into their lunch bag along with a sandwich or something that is easy to make. Some days I am really behind and they have to help (although I should really make them do this everyday, it’s often easier to not get them involved if you know what I mean.)

It’s also not easy to find healthy packaged, pre-portioned snacks. There is SO much junk out there!

The kids were really excited about all their choices of the Nourish Snacks.

NourishSnacks-1-3

My personal favorites (I have a lot)….the Holy Habanero roasted corn, the King corn, the Menage-a-Mix, the Almond to Cherries and the Granny’s Apple Pie (which is walnuts and spiced dried apples).  Oh and the coconut chewy almond bar.

My kid’s favorites where the Cocoa Loco (chocolate granola), the Granny’s Apple Pie and the Half-popped corn kernels.

NourishSnacks-4

All so yummy! I plan on ordering an assortment of those once I am out. And to offer you an honest review, the granola bites didn’t excite me much and since they have 10 grams of sugar I would have to really love them.

I really like the perfect portions, all under 200 calories and high in fiber.

I will let you in on a little insider secret, the Holy Habanero corn totally reminded me of flamin’ hot cheetos that I used to have on occasion in my youth. These are much healthier and much tastier in my opinion! I am addicted!

NourishSnacks-1-4

Joy crafted the recipes herself, along with her team of nutritionists with the following goals in mind:

1. Healthy meets delicious – nutrient-rich, yet naturally sweet, savory, and super satisfying

2. Honest ingredients – simple and wholesome, so you know what you’re eating3.

3. Balanced recipes – designed to provide essential nutrients like protein, fiber, and antioxidants

I am not the only one who likes these snacks. Nourish Snacks were were chosen as one of Kathie Lee & Hoda’s favorite things of 2014!

I could totally use these for work days. I often work a 3-4 hour shift on the reference desk, so I’m STARVING when I leave. It would be awesome to have something to eat in my car on the way home so that I don’t do the crazy stuff my face thing when I walk in the door.
