MapMyFitness Quaker Challenge Update

February 28, 2012 by Melanie

It’s been about 2 weeks since I posted about my fitness goals and I wanted to check in, share my progress and see how you’ve been doing. My goal was to exercise at least 15 times this month and I’m proud to say that I have accomplished that goal! I am a very goal-oriented person so for me, setting goals and saying them out loud (or on my blog) really works.

I met my goal by running 2-3 times a week on the treadmill and doing 1-2 gym workouts a week at home. I actually love going to the gym and since I am a stay-at-home mom to 3 kids ages five and under, I really love the little break it gives me. We used to belong to a gym with a daycare, but now I only make it to the gym kid-free when I can work it with my husband’s schedule. There are a couple gyms on post that allow you to bring your kids with you, but I’d still rather have the true “break”. As a result, I have learned to love my at-home workouts. I save at least 30 minutes in travel time and I have the flexibility to work it into my schedule. Sometimes I wake up early to exercise before the kids are up, sometimes I do it later in the morning when my son is at preschool; I’ve also squeezed it into nap time. I personally do better when I change up the routine (including the time of day), however it does feel best to get it done first thing in the morning.

Another thing that really helped this month was exercising with a friend. It sure makes running on the treadmill a lot more enjoyable when you have someone to chat with. I highly encourage you all to find a workout partner, even if you can only meet up once a week. As a result of sticking to my goals and this challenge I’ve seen some more results and I can now fit into another couple pairs of my pre-pregnancy pants! Yeah! If you joined me last time, how did you do?

If you didn’t there is still time to join the MapMyFitness Quaker Challenge! As I mentioned last time, February is National Heart Health month.

Even if it’s only 5 more minutes a day, what extra step will you take to stay fit?

For your chance to win $750 complete these two steps:

  1. Share this challenge with your friends.
  2. Tell us that you’ve invited your friends to join the challenge AND share the extra step you’ll take to stay fit below
