I picked up a package of these The Better Chip Jalapeno flavored corn chips at the commissary a couple months ago. I fell in love- they are awesome! Little chunks of real jalapeno lace the crisp and thick corn chip. So I was super excited to receive a sampler assortment in the mail to review.
They have the four flavors pictured- sweet onion, fresh corn, jalapeno and red pepper. The are made from natural ingredients like corn masa, veggies, sea salt. They are gluten free, cholesterol free and free of preservatives. Not to mention they are the best flavored corn chip out there (in my opinion). I opened them all up for a taste test and everyone in the family loved them. I also love that they have 2 grams of fiber per serving and are made with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Even the right chips can fit into a healthy diet on occasion.
The jalapeno flavored chips, which were my favorite flavor, inspired me to make a batch of cilantro-jalapeno hummus to go along with our snacking, one of my favorite flavor combos of hummus. We are constantly going through tub after tub of hummus around here and no one seems to grow tired of it. If I buy it from the store, I go with Sabra brand, but making it at home is so easy. I don’t usually follow a recipe, but rather add the ingredients until it it taste right. You can’t really mess it up too bad either- if you add a little more or less of anything it will turn out just fine. Except salt. I always under-salt and add more if needed.
Classic hummus is hard to beat, but it’s always fun to change up the flavors too. I read a little trick that if you want to achieve a smoother hummus, pop off the skin of the cooked garbanzo beans before pureeing. You just rub a bean between your index and thumb and off the peel goes. It isn’t a necessary step to making homemade hummus, but I have to agree it makes it smoother and creamier. And it’s shockingly addicting popping those skins off!
If you love hummus, you’ve got to try this one….and soon I will show you my new addiction that involves this hummus. Stay tuned!
