My oldest baby boy turned 8 over the weekend! His birthday kicks off the beginning of the birthday/holiday extravaganza over at our house where the rest of us will follow until the year comes to an end. He was super laid back about the party plans this year. He chose to invite 4 classmates to Chuck E Cheese, plus his grandma and great-grandma came to visit from Texas (my mom and grandma) so it was a fun weekend celebrating. oops, forgot the mouth and fangs, but it's still a cute bat! In addition to the delicious chocolate cake I make every year for him (I use this recipe), I did a … [Read more...]

Asian Noodle Salad With Peanut Dressing

AsianNoodleSalad-1-2

The fun thing about being in charge of the food around here is that I get to cook whatever I feel like eating! Pasta with veggies tossed in a peanut dressing. That's what I wanted. As I mentioned before, we had company over a couple weeks ago (our good friends from Texas) and when hosting any guests, I do my meal planning before they arrive so that I am not grocery shopping or trying to figure out what we should eat last minute. This is especially important when there are lots of little ones in the house- 8 kids to be exact, ages 7 and under (4 for each of us). Heather is one of my … [Read more...]

Kailua Monkey {Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie}

201206_HawaiiReunion2012_13

Dear Summer, I have thoroughly enjoyed you. You have blessed us with lovely sunny days, 70-80 degree temperatures and lots of time to play outside with friends. We have successfully crossed off the following: a trip to visit family in Texas, learning how to swim (both kids went life-jacket free the last few days in Texas and started lessons again soon after), basketball camp, ballet camp, the Children's Museum, the zoo, several dates with Dad to the pool, several park play dates with friends and a few home organizational projects among other things. Although the kids have loved you summer, … [Read more...]

No-Bake Oatmeal Raisin Protein Cookies

ProteinCookies-1-3

I don't use protein powder very often, but my husband likes it in his smoothies and once in a while I will add it to mine too. We finally run out of our giant ol' tub that lasted about a year and I got to try a new brand and DELICIOUS flavor, sweet cream. I used Vi-Shape shake mix from Visalus. You would not believe the smell when I opened the bag, it reminded me of walking into an ice cream shop. So delicious smelling which I don't think I've ever said about protein powder! Ha! They're not lying when they say it's "the shake mix that tastes like a cake mix". The mix is low fat … [Read more...]

Congratulations to Katie C. the winner of the Uncommon Goods Giveaway! I know you will enjoy the gifts as much as I did! Hi friends. It has been way too long. I am back from vacation in San Diego and totally behind schedule. I planned on blogging while I was there but I took my lap top which I don't usually blog from and it was so slow that I couldn't handle wasting precious vacation time trying to post. I didn't take many real photos but if you are on instagram you can see a few of the ones I did take while in San Diego (click on the IG button up top). We hit up Disneyland, California … [Read more...]

Move Over Girl Scouts: Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookie

PBCookies-1-2

I haven't posted a splurge-worthy recipe in a LONG time so look away if you are trying to fit into a bathing suit by the summer time. Look away if you are watching what you're eating. You're going to want one of these cookies now. And you will make a batch and want to eat them all and you will hate me for it. So if you like cookies, just look away. Pretend like you never saw this. For those of you who are accepting of the splurge, these cookies were awesome. They resembled the Girl Scout Peanut Butter Sandwich cookie, only WAY, WAY, WAY better. First off, they are much bigger, the … [Read more...]

The Perfect Snack- Oatmeal Peanut Butter Balls

PB Balls-1-1

When I followed the vegan diet for a week I was craving sweets in a bad way. I mean, I am pregnant and I need chocolate. However, I was good and avoided pretty much anything sweet until day 6 when I couldn't take it anymore. I stared into our pantry hoping that something animal-free would jump out at me for dessert.  I came up with these treats and I'm hooked....and they aren't really that sweet with the only added sweetener being 1/4 cup syrup per batch, you can definitely feel good about eating these or giving them to your kids as snacks. 5 simple ingredients including some vegan basics- … [Read more...]
